Ahí viene Ye con otro album: Vultures

Como acostumbra, este album no viene sin polémica. Más allá de la música Kanye siempre da que hablar y esta vez está siendo muy activo por redes, haciendo coincidir el drop del álbum con una campaña de marketing muy potente, bajando a 20$ el precio de todos los artículos en Yeezy. El día 12 facturó más de 19M de dólares, a la vez que su álbum se convertía en #1 en más de 100 países.

Lupeamos Paid y Good (Don’t die)

PAID

Arranca con un aire a Donda, ese synth (delayed) que sabe a órgano y unos vocals en segundo plano “Get on up now“.

Entra el track de drums, un kick a tempo acompañado un golpe amaderado a contratempo entre el segundo y el tercer tiempo del kick y un “segundo kick” que le da dinamismo al beat. En el mismo momento entra el vocal de Ty Dolla con un “I’m just here to get paid” que se repite ocho veces y, justo cuando finaliza la cuarta, entra un sample que seguro conocéis: los vocals de Brighter Days – Cajmere ft. Dajaé. No es la primera vez que Kanye utiliza este sample, lo vimos en un directo en Sunday Service utilizando este tema.

Se mantiene con esos elementos, añadiendo reverb a los vocals puntualmente hasta que entra el segundo track de drums para darle más ritmo al tema, a la vez que volvemos al “I’m just here to get paid“. En el 01.51 entra un bajo distorsionado a jugar con el kick.

En cuanto a la letra, es complicado siempre entender las referencias del hip-hop sin haber buceado la cultura, pero a mi me parece casi como una actuación de funambulista, todo el rato en la cuerda floja entre la crítica o la vanidad del poder. Quiero creer que es una crítica a toda la gente que se acerca a ellos sin más objetivo que sacar un rendimiento económico, las frases entrecortadas y con un semifalsete me hacen pensar en que se están riendo de esa gente interesada.

GOOD (DON’T DIE)

Este tema me gusta mucho más que el anterior. La energia con la que arranca ese synth distorsionado y el kick a doble tempo, sumado al vocal sampleado (Donna Summer – I Feel Love) me lleva rápido a un mood feliz y activo. Y de repente…

“In the dark of night this thoughts of mine keep me up all night. Got my heart on ice, don’t die“.

Qué momento ese en el que sabes que se va a ir de un momento a otro, cualquier noche ya no despierta y quieres arañarle todas las horas posibles a la vida.

Una oda a la vida y al amor, al sueño que todos hemos tenido alguna vez, inmortalizar a aquellos que más queremos.

Mi viaje con Good (Don’t die)

En medio del océano, de noche, un cuadrilátero y yo en medio, golpeando un saco con todas mis fuerzas.

No puedo más y de repente estoy en la puerta de la habitación del hospital. Entro y me saluda elegante y cordialmente, sin reconocerme.

Alguna broma le hace gracia, reímos juntos y me despido dándole las gracias.

Me seco los ojos mientras corro cada vez más rápido hasta que llego a un puente. Coches por debajo que vienen y van, conducidos por otros como yo, con miedos, alegrías y alguna que otra cicatriz.

Y qué sabrán ellos, si nunca lo conocieron a él.
